The Killer Shrews is an independently made 1959 American black-and-white science fiction film, produced by Ken Curtis and Gordon McLendon, directed by Ray Kellogg, that stars James Best, Ingrid Goude and Ken Curtis. The film co-stars Gordon McLendon, Baruch Lumet and "Judge" Henry Dupree. The Killer Shrews was filmed outside of Dallas, Texas back-to-back with The Giant Gila Monster.
"The Return Of The Killer Shrews" can be found as a single film DVD or as a bonus on the Blu-Ray for the film "Night Claws" and was for me the clear winner of the collection. This is due to the fact that director Steve Latshaw (direction, screenplay) has laid out the whole film as a satire of Creature-Feature/Trash films. ...
Honestly, I was disappointed with "Return of the Killer Shrews" and I really wanted to like it. It was just too forced and intentionally campy to be fun like the original, but the great extras raised it to a three stars: if you haven't seen the original, please watch it first, but if you like the original feel free to give this a try.
Audience Reviews for Return Of The Killer Shrews. Feb 06, 2017. While the original is at least moderately endearing, the 50+ years on sequel is bad in every conceivable way.
One thing is for sure Return of the Killer Shrews will not appeal to everyone, and there are those who will be put off with the unsophisticated rendering of digital FX and the weird shrieking that omits from the shrews during the action. Putting this aside, for some reason it works on the level it was intended and for lovers of the cheesy, fun ...
I am a huge fan of the original 'The Killer Shrews', and couldn't wait to see the sequel when I heard it was in production. 'Return of the Killer Shrews' is a big letdown. The whole film is taken as a big joke, with a precious few moments of decent acting from James Best. One of the often debated original film were the monsters.
The Killer Shrews are a dangerous group of gigantic carnivorous rodents that appeared as the titular main antagonists of the 1959 classic film The Killer Shrews, and its 2012 sequel Return of the Killer Shrews.. In the 1959 film, their vocal sound effects were provided by the late Milton Citron. In the 2012 sequel, their vocal effects were provided by Frank Welker.
